Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum

This museum houses one of the most impressive Egyptian and Ancient Peruvian collections in Europe. Special temporary exhibitions are featured on a regular basis.

21 NOVEMBER 2015 – 8 JANUARY 2017

Come along and see the enchanting beauty of Chinese art! By 4 December 2016, the special exhibition “Treasures for the Emperor – Masterpieces of Chinese Art (1368–1911) will allow unique insights into the varied aspects of Chinese art from the imperial manufactories.

During a walk through the imperial palace we show you the splendid apartments of the Emperor and his household: In the first exhibition area, colourful works of art from two pri-vate collections, never being exhibited before, take you into the world of the great emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Precious metal and lacquer works, once placed in the great throne hall and pieces of religious art from the palace temple are still impressing us due to their shining colors and exceptional motifs. The Emperor’s dining table is set with precious porcelains from the world-famous collection of the RPM. Further room reconstructions introduce the visitor into the scholar’s room and into the Emperor’s private apartment.

The exhibition tour ends with an insight into the museum’s collection of magnificent porcelains from the imperial manufactories. Fascinating colors, forms and patterns illustrate impressively the Chinese art of porcelain manufacture from early 15th to late 19th century.
