The highlight of the 2010/2011 season: AIDA – an opera by Giuseppe Verdi (in Italian)
Due not only to the triumphal march and Radames’s aria, Celeste Aida, Verdi’s masterpiece, Aida, which originally premiered in Cairo in 1871, remains immensely popular today. The grand mass scenes, however, make up only a small part of the opera. What dominates is the inner drama surrounding the two main characters, their love for each other, which brings them together, and their loyalty to their countries, which tears them apart.
